Potteries MoneyWise

Potteries Moneywise is a project within Citizens Advice Staffordshire North & Stoke on Trent. We are part of the Money Advice team working alongside the Citizens Advice Community Debt team. Our project specialises in offering budgeting, and energy advice to individuals and workshops to community groups, employees and frontline staff. Alongside our service we can refer clients to the debt team for specialist debt advice and services offered by Citizens Advice or our partners.

Our free advice can help

We can offer one-to-one appointments, which can be in person or via telephone. These appointments will cover budgeting, energy advice, benefit checks, grant applications and any other issues or concerns around household finances. 

Your Advisor will be with you throughout your time with the service to answer any queries and to ensure a personalised service is received. As part of your appointment our Advisors carry out a basic benefit check to check you are receiving everything you are entitled to.  Our Advisors use a specialist benefit checker. 

We also work with organisations to provide a funded one to one service with a dedicated advisor.  The advisor can attend your chosen venue/s on dates and times agreed with you.  This can be done on a frequency to suit the needs of your clients.  We offer this service to local organisations as well as individuals. 

We aim to maximise your income and reduce your outgoings by completing a budget sheet and going through your bills to look for ways to save you money and address any issues.   

As well as direct support we also provide Employee Workshops, Community Events, and Community Group Workshops. 

We also can support with Food and Fuel Vouchers in an emergency; you must be a resident in North Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent to apply for these.

Getting help

How we will support you

  • After your initial contact one of our advisors will contact you once you have been referred or contacted us. We aim to make initial contact within 2 working days. We will then book you an appointment. We will contact you from a local number ending 799 which is for outbound calls only. If you need to contact us, please call on 01782 408 685 and leave a voice message. We will call you back within 2 working days. Appointments can be booked for a face to face at Advice house, Hanley or Canal arm, Festival Park, or a telephone call with one of our Advisors. 

 

  • At your first appointment, we will complete a full budget and benefit check with you, so please make sure you have all your bills and income to hand. We will also explore any concerns you may have. Please be open and honest with our advisers, as the more you tell us the more, we can help. 

 

  • We will continue to support you on an ongoing basis until everything we can do or help with is complete. Your case will then be closed, and a closing letter will be emailed or posted to your home address.
